Both the Jonesboro Cardinals and the Lovejoy boys tennis teams have earned a spot in the state tourney. In Region 2-AAAAA, both the Jonesboro boys and girls teams finished second. In Region 4-AAAAA, Lovejoy took third. In both sets of matches, Jonesboro beat Houston County 3-1, then lost to Eagle's Landing in the region championship. In boys action in the Houston match, Manny Cortez (6-2, 6-4) won his single match. In doubles, Dusty Landrum and Nick Griffin (6-2, 6-3) and Robert Lundy and Matt Garrett (6-2, 6-3) won. In the girls matches, Laura McMillian (6-2, 6-2), Katie Landers (6-1, 6-2). Sarah Buttram and Katie Huling (6-2, 7-5) won in doubles. In Region 4-AAAAA action, Lovejoy defeated Fayette County 4-1 for third place. Lovejoy swept the singles matches as Kimleon Turner (7-5, 7-5), Ryan Hyndman (6-0, 3-6, 6-2) and Chris Cook (6-0, 6-0) all won.
