Riverdale woman raped, robbed

By Ed Brock

A Riverdale woman told police a man broke into her house, raped her at gunpoint, kidnapped her and robbed her.

The man broke into the woman's house on Glenwoods Drive at about 5 a.m. Friday while she was still asleep, Riverdale police Officer Russell Rogers said. He then raped her.

"After he raped her he put her in the trunk of her own car and drove her to the Wachovia Bank on Valley Hill Road," Rogers said.

There the man took the woman's ATM card and PIN number and withdrew $500 from her account. He then drove her to Kimberly Forest Apartments on Riverdale Road, popped the trunk and left.

Rogers said there is no known connection between the rape and the Hit Squad, a gang known to be active in the Kimberly Forest complex.

The woman got out of the trunk and drove her car back to her house, where she called 911, Rogers said. She was taken to Southern Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and released.

She had no physical injuries but was emotionally upset, Rogers said.

Riverdale police are hoping to get a photo of the suspect from the Wachovia surveillance camera. He is described as a black male in his early 20s standing 5 feet, 2 inches or 5 feet, 4 inches tall with a thin build. He wore a black T-shirt over his face.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Riverdale police at (770) 996-3382.
