From staff reports
The Jonesboro Lady Cardinals got the 2003 softball season off to a solid start Tuesday with a 16-0 victory over Forest Park. Sophomore pitcher Heather Lowry led the way with eight strikeouts and no hits. She walked only one batter. "She's gotten better than last year," Jonesboro head coach Jeanine Conkle said. "She's going to do a good job this year." Lowry also had a stellar day at the plate as she sent 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Other standouts included Kelsey Currin who was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and getting one RBI each were Brittany Jones, Heather McCarty and Kala Smith. "We had a bad practice yesterday but we came out with a better attitude today," Conkle said. "It's good to start with a win." Jonesboro made it to the Class AAAAA state sectionals last year.
