Carjacking suspect shot to death

A Riverdale man was shot and one of three men who were allegedly carjacking him was shot and killed during an incident that also involved a bag of cocaine.

Jarmarcus Moss, 23, of College Park was killed during the incident, Clayton County Police Department Capt. Jeff Turner said.

The carjacking victim, Stanley Smylie, 20, of Riverdale, told police that he was waiting in the parking lot of a church on Camp Road at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday when three men approached him, Turner said. One of the men pulled a gun and forced the victim to drive them away in his truck.

When they reached Creole Road the victim managed to pull over to the side of the road, Turner said.

"All the doors to the vehicle opened and everybody jumped out," Turner said.

One of the carjackers opened fire more than 17 times, hitting Smylie twice in the chest and abdomen.

Moss was also shot during the hail of gunfire, Turner said.

Smylie got back into his pickup truck and drove to a home where the residents called 911. Police were still looking for the two other men, described only as black males with short-cropped hair.

A bag of suspected cocaine was found with some personal effects on the road near where the shooting occurred, but Turner said police did not know to whom it belonged.
