With its 2003 football season now complete, the Lovejoy Wildcats are now starting to collect post-season accolades.
Despite getting knocked out in the second round of the Class AAAAA playoffs for the second straight year by Westside-Macon, the Wildcats had a banner year, finishing the regular-season with an undefeated record and a region title.
One area where Lovejoy is well represented is on the Region 4-AAAAA All-Area football team.
Three of the Region 2-AAAAA football team's top honors go to representatives of Lovejoy.
Lovejoy coach Al Hughes was named Region 4-AAAAA coach of the year, quarterback Kisan Flakes was named Offensive Player of the Year and Aaron Williams earned top honors as the region's best All-Purpose back.
Also earning first-team honors was Lovejoy running back Mark Pettaway. Teammate Vernard Hoover took first team honors at Wide Receiver.
On the offensive line, Lovejoy's Anthony Parker and Chris Scott earned first team all-region honors.
On the defensive side of the ball, Lovejoy linebacker Keith Boykins was named to the Region 4-AAAAA first team.
In the secondary, Lovejoy's Keith Fitzhugh and Riverdale's Jerome Touchstone earned first-team honors.
The complete Region 4-AAAAA honor roll appears in the scoreboard section on the next page.
