Bernard Arnold

Probation officer

Mr. Bernard Arnold, age 42, of Luthersville, Ga., died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at the Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Bernard Arnold was born May 7, 1961, to the late Mr. Billy Arnold and Mrs. Lala Teagler Williams in Coweta County. He was the grandson of the late Mrs. Helen Teagler, whom he loved dearly.

At an early age Bernard joined the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Newnan, Ga., where he sang with the Zion Hill Male Chorus. He loved singing and praising the Lord through songs.

Bernard received his education from Newnan High School, where he served as president of his class.

Bernard worked in Coweta County as a probation officer for many years. He loved working with kids, so he started the (kids) Baseball organization to keep their minds focused on something positive.

Bernard was united in Holy Matrimony to Teresa Mitchell Arnold Dec. 25, 1997. No children were born to this union, but Bernard had six children whom they love dearly.

Funeral services were held at noon Tuesday, July 1 at the Raymond Henry Memorial Chapel at Bentley's Funeral Home in Thomaston with Elder Bennie Mitchell officiating. Interment followed in the Shiloh Cemetery in Alvaton, Ga.

On Wednesday, June 25, 2003, God called Bernard home to rest. He leaves to cherish his memories a lovely wife, Teresa; a loving mother, Lala Williams of Newnan; children, Keshia Harris, Bernard Arnold, Nina Arnold, Holly Arnold, Jermey Arnold, and Patrick Dunn, all of Newnan; sister and brothers, Monica Williams of Mississippi, Tony Williams of Newnan, and Scott Williams of North Carolina; father-in-law, Tommy Mitchell; mother-in-law, Jean Mitchell; several brothers and sisters in Detroit; other relatives including Veresa Amey and Tony Mitchell (Rosalyn), both of Lutherville, Jerry Grant of Florida City, Fla., and Thomas Mitchell of Lutherville; special friends, Ricky Florence, Freddie Mack, George Black, Bennie Hill, Jimmy Cox, and Curtis Potts.

Margaret Teal Smoot

Church pianist

Margaret Teal Smoot, 84, of Hogansville, died Wednesday, July 2, 2003.

Mrs. Smoot lived in Hogansville most of her life, and was retired from Uniroyal, Inc. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Hogansville, where she served as church pianist for many years, and was a former Sunday School teacher.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. today, Thursday, July 3 in the Chapel of the Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with interment in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherry Edge of Morrow and Karen and Roger Parham of Hogansville; son and daughter-in-law, Lanny and Sondra Medley of Florence, Ala.; sister, Eris Barrow of Hogansville; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Louise Doe McLendon

Mrs. Louise Doe McLendon of Jonesboro passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2003.

Mrs. McLendon was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro and an active member of the Esther Sunday School Class. She was disabled most of her adult life. However, her strong Christian faith and love for others enabled her to be an inspiration for those who loved and knew her. She always had a smile of bravery on her face under the most difficult circumstances. Her memory will be treasured by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5 at First Baptist Church of Jonesboro and will lie in state at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, with Dr. Charles Q. Carter and Dr. Dean Haun officiating.

Survivors include her daughter, Cathy Louise McLendon of Macon; sons, Jimmy Harold McLendon of Riverdale, Terrance Craig McLendon of Jonesboro; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m.
