The North Clayton Rockies saw their season come to an end Tuesday evening in the AABC Sandy Koufax (14-and-under) State Tournament at Morrow-Lake City Park.
The Rockies fell 5-4 to the Shiloh Giants in the double elimination tournament.
The game was tied at 3-3 in the top of the seventh but an RBI double by Johnnie Neal scored Derek Miner to give the Rockies a 4-3 advantage.
The Rockies couldn't hold and the Giants scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to take the victory.
Also scoring runs for the Rockies were Jason Harlowe, Kevin Dodson and Alex Skinner.
"It was a great ball game," North Clayton head coach Sammy McClendon said. "The kids play like that all the time. We had a terrific season and we battled all the way back to be here."
McClendon has been coaching for several years and many of the boys on this year's team have been playing together since t-ball.
Those players include Skinner, Neal, Christopher Scott, Samuel McClendon, Jason and Justin Harlowe and Joshua Ross.
The final six: After Tuesday's games, there are only six teams left in the tournament. Those teams are the McDonough Hurricanes, Gresham Park Reds, the Morrow-Lake City Astros, the Redan Cardinals and the Shiloh Giants. The Locust Grove Spikes and the Old National Red played in the late game Tuesday night to determine who would go on to the final six. The game was not completed by deadline.
"It's very competitive," Hurricanes head coach John Adkins said. "This tournament is run real well. Morrow-Lake City does a nice job."
Forest Park A's fall: In 11-12 year old action at Forest Park, the Forest Park A's lost to the Tyrone Lobos 17-8 Tuesday evening.
Teammates B.J. Culver and Kelvin Tanner both hit three-run home runs in the game. Culver went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Tanner went 4-for-4 with five RBIs.
