Perfect.

That's how the Hampton Bulldogs 10-and-under baseball team finished the 2003 season.

The Bulldogs finished their Hampton league schedule at 19-0 and then posted seven straight victories in the GABA Willie Mays State Tournament to win the championship.

The tournament in Fayetteville culminated in the championship game Sunday with the Bulldogs taking on the Rock Chapel A's.

The Bulldogs emerged victorious in a 12-2 contest and sealed the state championship.

Offensive standouts included Cory Griffin (4-for-4), Dylan Crawley (3-for-3), Ryan Hickman (3-for-4) and Josh Childers (3-for-4). Terry Pike, Brian Dill, Dillan Tschudy and Jamie Payne all went 2-for-3. Pitching for the Bulldogs were Pike, Hickman and Dylan Crawley.

The Bulldogs advanced to the championship game by beating the Brown's Mill Yellow Jackets 8-1. Hickman went 3-for-3 and Dill and Pike both went 2-for-3. Griffin pitched three innings and Colby Murtha hurled the final two innings.

The Bulldogs also racked up victories over the Tyrone Braves (20-0), the Sandtown Crawfords (14-5), Gresham Park Indians (10-8), the Brown's Mill Yellow Jackets (11-3) and the Sandtown Mustangs (11-8).

"Good players, coaches and parents made managing easy," manager Rick Childers said. "We all came together to form a great team."

Hampton outscored their opponents 86-27 in the tournament. Hickman and Childers both batted .550 in the tournament.

Hickman also won the pre-tournament home run derby.

Other offensive standouts included Griffin (.490) and Dylan and Murtha with a batting average of .480.

Pike, Crawley, Griffin and Murtha pitched well in the state tournament, coaches said.

Throughout the season, Pike compiled a 9-0 record with three saves.

Hickman was 6-0 with three saves and Crawley was 4-0 with five saves.

Hickman led the team in hitting with a .679 batting average during the season.

Childers' season batting average was .423.
