The Clayton County Education Association (CCEA) has voted "No Confidence" in the leadership of the Clayton County Board of Education.
"The Chair and Vice-Chair of the Clayton County Board of Education appear to be running a private agenda at the exclusion of the rest of the Board and at the peril of the students," states Sid Chapman, President of CCEA.
Chapman continues, "The recent SACS report is very clear about what will happen to the system if things continue on their present course, our school system will lose accreditation."
The CCEA is also calling on the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Clayton County Board of Education, in addition to the board member appointed to District 7 in January 2003, to resign their positions. CCEA Executive Committee member, Angelyn Williams states, "The community deserves representatives who will advance the school system, not individuals who would jeopardize the educational status of our children."
Sid Chapman continues, "Our children, employees, and the community deserve a Board of Education that is responsive. We call on the leadership to do the right thing." CCEA President Sid Chapman has addressed the Board of Education, every month since the January incident with the Superintendent, calling on the community and Board to work together for the benefit of our children.
The Clayton County Education Association is the local affiliate of the Georgia Association of Educators and National Education Association.
Whereas the actions of Nedra Ware, Connie Kitchens, Carol Kellam and LaToya Walker have jeopardized the SACS accreditation of the Clayton County School System; and
Whereas the above named Clayton County Board of Education members have excluded the community, and other school board members, from the selection process for a new superintendent; and
Whereas the above named Clayton County Board of Education members continue to deny responsibility for their actions and decisions, the Clayton County Education Association does hereby move the following:
The Executive Board of the Clayton County Education Association hereby votes "No Confidence" in the leadership of the Clayton County Board of Education.
With the affirmation of the above motion the Executive Board of CCEA does hereby call for the resignation of the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Clayton County Board of Education, the representative from District 1, and the representative appointed to District 7. (Nedra Ware, Connie Kitchens, LaToya Walker, and Carol Kellam)
The Executive Board of CCEA also recommends the continued national search for a superintendent that can help bring harmony and order to the Clayton County Public Schools.
CCEA recommends a "no" vote to the candidate for superintendent chosen by Nedra Ware, Connie Kitchens and Carol Kellam.
Should the individuals fail to resign, CCEA will support and assist in a recall of said elected officials.
Rationale: The Chair and Vice-Chair of the CCBOE have demonstrated on numerous occasions that the welfare of the students and community are not of paramount interest. The accreditation of the school system is now in jeopardy due to the actions of those individuals. Therefore CCEA must provide leadership in the community and within the school system in calling for the ouster of those who would jeopardize the system.
