The Riverdale Raiders boys' basketball team will spend a portion of the Christmas holidays in Bristol, Tenn.
The Raiders have been invited to play in the annual Arby's Classic High School tournament, according to newly-hired head coach David Boyd.
Boyd, who was hired to replace the retiring Ken Ross, became a big believer in playing in national high school tournaments while coaching at Berkmar High School in Gwinnett County.
"It's a really good way to gauge yourself against other opponents, and it serves as a good tune-up for the rest of your season."
The Raiders will be guaranteed two games, starting the day after Christmas.
"Tournaments like this can help give you a boost of confidence," he said. "At Berkmar, when we started playing in these tournaments, we starting winning state titles."
A year ago, Wheeler High School, which beat Jonesboro in this past season's Class AAAAA state title game, won the Arby's Classic.
Wheeler's Richard McCray was named the MVP.
The tournament field also included teams from Italy and the Bahamas.
