During her years at Jonesboro High School, Brin Davis was a standout on the softball team.

Now, the 2000 Jonesboro graduate is getting the chance to play in the NCAA Division II Softball World Series as a member of the Georgia College and State University Lady Bobcats.

Davis has been playing softball in the Southern Crescent since she was 7 and said the opportunity to play in the World Series was a ?major thrill.'

"Work hard, play hard and dream big," she said. "You never know where it will take you."

Georgia College travels to Salem, Oregon Tuesday and will begin play in the World Series Thursday afternoon against Le Moyne, of Syracuse, N.Y.

Last weekend, the Lady Bobcats won the South Atlantic Regional in Orlando, Fla.

Georgia College won the regional by beating Armstrong Atlantic State in a 13-inning contest. The Lady Bobcats are currently ranked No. 12 in the USA Today/NFCA NCAA Division II poll.

Davis is not only standing out on the softball team but has been academically sound as well. Davis is currently on the Dean's List.

"That's great," Jonesboro head softball coach Jeanine Conkle said. "I just can't tell you how proud I am of her. She was a great player and worked hard. She deserves it."
