Union Grove, Henry ranked in pre-season wrestling poll

From staff reports

Henry County and Union Grove are the only area teams to be ranked in the pre-season high school wrestling poll.

Henry County has been ranked No. 7 in Class AAAAA and Union Grove has been ranked No. 9 in Class AA.

Last year, Henry County placed 10th in the Class AAAAA state meet. The Warhawks also won the Area 2-AAAAA Duals and the Henry County Duals.

Henry County is coached by Marty Hutsell, who previously was at McIntosh. He coached at McIntosh from 1983-2000 and guided the Chiefs to two state titles. In the 1970s, Hutsell coached the old Feldwood High School to two state championships.

Union Grove placed ninth in the Class AA traditional meet last year and fourth in the Class AA State Duals. Candler Woods also won the Class AA state in the 140-pound division.

The year before, Rick Brownlee became the first state champion in any sport at Union Grove when he won the Class AAAA championship in the 152-pound division.

Union Grove athletic director Scott Mason said that wrestling has become one of the premier sports at the school.

"(Head) coach (Joey) DiNino and all of his coaching staff have done a super job," Mason said.
