Helen Wright Yancey
Helen Wright Yancey, 73, of Hampton, died Oct. 11, 2003 at a local hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter P. "Bud" Yancey. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Lee Yancey Flynn and Jeff Flynn of Newnan; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Connie Yancey of Hampton; three grandchildren, Elliott and Emily Yancey and Yancey Flynn; a sister and brother-in-law, Frances Wright Huff and John Huff of Jonesboro; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, with Dr. Dean Haun and Dr. Paul Camp officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Jonesboro.
Visitation will be Monday, Oct. 13, 2002, from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pope Dickson Funeral Home, Jonesboro Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, Mission Projects, P.O. Box 773, Jonesboro, Ga. 30237. Donations may also be made to First Baptist Church of Hampton, Mission Projects, 85 McDonough St., Hampton, Ga. 30228.

Raymond T. Appling
Raymond T. Appling, 84, of Atlanta, died Oct. 10, 2003.
Appling retired from the United States Marine Corps with 25 years of dedicated service. During his tenure he fought in Iwojima and later retired as Master Gunnery Sergeant. After retiring from the Marines, Appling served 35 years with the City of Atlanta Police Department, retiring as a patrol sergeant.
Appling is preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Mrs. Frances Appling. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law Tommy and Beverly Appling of Ocala, Fla., David and Martha Appling of Morrow; daughter and friend Karen and Wayne Wilkes of Forest Park; special friend Katherine Brooks of Atlanta; sister Lillian Bellinger of Kennesaw.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Pope Dickson and Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery. The family received friends on Sunday and will receive friends again on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
