After losing five straight games, the Jonesboro Cardinals got back on track Saturday with a 21-0 victory over Henry County at Tara Stadium. Jonesboro improves to 2-5 overall and 2-4 in Region 2-AAAAA play. "The kids played real well," Jonesboro head coach Larry Mortonson said. "The kids deserved to win; they've worked hard all year long." Jonesboro quarterback Garrett Williams completed 5-of-15 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns while freshman running back Brandon Lucas ran 11 times for 107 yards. Lucas added a touchdown late in the fourth quarter. "He's been a pleasant surprise for us," Mortonson said. "He weighs maybe 105 pounds soaking wet but he's a hard runner." Jonesboro has next week off but gets back into action on Halloween night against Westside-Macon at Tara Stadium. The Cardinals then close out the season with games at Stockbridge and Eagle's Landing. "We're hoping this win will be a positive for the rest of the season," Mortonson said. "There are no ?gimmes' in this region; we're going to have to play well and execute." Henry County was led in rushing by Tommy Davis, who gained 77 yards on 20 carries. Quarterback Michael Rozier completed 11-of-27 passes for 117 yards. Dion Moore caught four passes for 40 yards for the Warhawks. Henry County (1-6) plays host to Mt. Zion next Friday. "Coach (Mike) Rozier and his staff do a tremendous job over there," Mortonson said. "They played hard and were ready to play football."
