The Lovejoy Wildcats made things look easy Friday night when they routed Fayette County 35-0 at Twelve Oaks Stadium.
Senior quarterback Kisan Flakes completed 16-of-24 passes for 188 yards and threw for two touchdowns to help lead the Wildcats.
Aaron Williams rushed for 33 yards but scored two touchdowns while catching four passes for 57 yards and one touchdown.
"Offensively we played well; Kisan had a great night," Lovejoy head coach Al Hughes said. "Our offense played great and our backs did what they needed to do. It was a great night overall for our offense."
The Lovejoy offense racked up 386 total yards, 25 first downs and held a more than two-to-one advantage in time of possession (32:01 to 15:59).
Mark Pettaway led the Wildcats in rushing with 53 yards and one touchdown and Santini Washington contributed with four catches for 49 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Lovejoy (4-0) held Fayette County (0-4) to just 143 yards and intercepted three passes thanks to Anthony Stanley, Keith Fitzhugh and Jordan Chastain. Stanley and Richard Carter also recovered fumbles for the Wildcats.
"The guys on defense played a great game," Hughes said. "They've done a super job all year."
The game was Lovejoy's homecoming but was a homecoming of sorts for Fayette County head coach Tommy Webb, who previously coached at Jonesboro and Riverdale.
"I think the world of coach Webb," Hughes said. "He's doing a good job with the program and their players were well-coached. They played hard but it was a good night for the ?Cats."
Lovejoy entered the game ranked No. 6 in Class AAAAA in this week's AP high school football poll.
"We're just playing one game at a time," Hughes said. "If we take care of our business, the rest will take care of itself."
