The Jonesboro Lady Cardinals will put its unbeaten record on the line tonight as they play host to Eagle's Landing and Luella.
Jonesboro has a 24-0 record and is coming off a pair of victories against Forest Park and Mays on Thursday. The Lady Cardinals beat Forest Park 25-14 and 25-17 and beat Mays 25-13 and 25-11.
Eagle's Landing is coming off a runner-up finish in the Henry County tournament on Saturday. Luella, a first-year school, finished last in the county tournament.
The Lady Golden Eagles lost to Union Grove in the finals, 25-20 and 25-21.
Last year, Jonesboro and Eagle's Landing met in the Area 2-AAAAA finals with the Lady Cardinals winning the area championship.
Roberts stays unbeaten: The Jonesboro High School team is not the only undefeated team in Clayton County. The M.D. Roberts Middle School Rams seventh-grade team finished undefeated with a 6-0 season.
The Rams finished the regular season Monday with a commanding win over the Lovejoy Cougars 25-10 and 25-17. According to coaches, Anita Wilburn and Carmen Nelson played an all around good match.
The Rams' eighth-grade team finished the regular season with a perfect record of 6-0 as they move into the county tournament on Wednesday. They beat the Lovejoy Cougars on Monday by the scores of 25-11 and 25-2. Ashley Rogers and Shanice Smith showed their eight-grade experience during the Rams win over the Cougars. During the second game, Rebecca Heard and Megan McBrayer were the only two servers needed to win the match. Heard served eighteen straight points for the Lady Rams. The 8th grade team is looking to continue their county championship streak starting on Wednesday at Babb Middle school; start time is 8 p.m.
Morrow ends regular season with pair of victories: Monday, the Morrow Middle School seventh-grade team beat Adamson 25-11 and 25-15. In the first game, Candice Banks scored six points and Malashia Chandler scored nine points. In game two, Banks scored 12 points and two aces.
The Morrow eighth-grade team beat Adamson 25-23 and 25-22. Leaders in game one were Minh Tran with six points and Desiree Wilson and Temperance Jacobs with five points each. In game two, Laura Stahley scored seven straight points to help win the game while Jacobs scored six points, including one ace.
Union Grove hopes to continue winning streak: The Union Grove Lady Wolverines went 5-0 on their way to winning the Henry County championship Saturday. In the round-robin portion of the tournament, they beat Luella 25-6 and 25-19, Stockbridge, 25-13 and 25-22, Eagle's Landing 25-21 and 28-26 and Henry County 25-18 and 25-18.
Union Grove is now 19-8 overall and 4-0 in Area 3-AA/A. Union Grove and Central play at Jackson today.
