The eighth-ranked Clayton College & State University women's tennis team picked up a big victory Friday by the slimmest of margins, downing 12th-ranked Barry University 5-4 in a match played at Armstrong Atlantic State University.
Freshman Michell Zulu, playing at No. 6 singles, captured the match-deciding point, winning 7-6 in a three set affair over Barry's Mary Rosas. Zulu won 6-1 in the first set before falling 6-3 in the second.
The Lakers were able to pull out the win, despite not having second seed Nathalia Collantes, who is out with an injury, winning four singles matches and one doubles match. The squad will return to the court on Sunday, facing Northwood University in an 8:30 a.m. match at the Clayton State Tennis Complex. The win improves the Lakers to 9-5 on the season.
