It's been a good year for Mt. Vernon senior Samantha Bailey. The junior at the private Christian school in Fairview has already helped guide her team to a Georgia Christian Athletic Association state title in basketball and volleyball, now she's on the verge of doing the same thing in softball.
The Lady Crusaders are off to a 14-0 start and will begin the playoffs in about two weeks. They have already clinched the region title.
"She is already getting some good looks from big schools," said C.E. Rhoades.
Among the schools showing interest in Bailey are South Carolina and Alabama.
Bailey has swung a potent bat throughout the season, posting an .857 average. She has also hit for power with five home runs and six triples.
"She is very versatile," said Rhoades. "She can play almost any position, she's an exceptional athlete."
The softball team's success on the diamond continues a trend by the school's athletic program. At the state basketball tournament, the Lady Crusaders dethroned Hebron, who had won the state title for several years.
The volleyball continued its reign as a state power. The school's football team also returned to the playoffs. On the gridiron, Rhoades-coached teams have collected several state titles.
