From Staff Reports
While many Henry County High School students have been basking in the Florida sun, members of the school's baseball team haven't had time for a trip to the beach.
Instead, it's been business as usual for the Warhawks, who have spent the week of spring break trying to hold on to their No. 1-ranking in the latest gabaseball.net Class AAAAA poll.
That shouldn't be a problem. After beating Houston County Wednesday night, the Warhawks hit the road Friday for a Region 2-AAAAA game at Northside Warner Robins.
The Warhawks came away with a 9-2 victory.
Jason Laird picked up the victory with a four-hit, eight-strikeout performance.
Alan Hanson was perfect at the plate finishing with a 3-for-3 performance. Greg Lindsey went 3-for-4 and Scott Robinson went 2-for-4.
Henry County improved to 14-1 overall and 6-1 in region play.
Eagle's Landing 9, Westside 0: Adam Fine pitched five strong innings, allowing just two hits in the Golden Eagles' Region 2-AAAAA victory.
Fine set down seven Westside batters with strikeouts.
Teammate Brandon Johnson pitched two innings of no-hit baseball while striking out two in an impressive relief appearance.
Offensively, Mike Sanders led the offense with a three-run opposite-field home run in the third inning.
Fine helped his own cause with the bat, and David Lane contributed at the plate, as each finished 2-for-4.
Eagle's Landing plays Monday against Region 2-AAAAA foe Mt. Zion. Sanders is expected to pitch for the Golden Eagles.
