Dog attack victim had been reported missing

By Ed Brock

The mother of a 14-year-old Morrow girl who was attacked by a pit bull and then hit by a car had reported the girl missing two days before the attack.

Natasha Christine Dezvaux was unconscious until Sunday following the Friday afternoon accident that occurred when she ran out into Rex Road to escape a pit bull terrier that had attacked her as she was crossing through a yard, Clayton County Police Department Capt. Tim Robinson said previously.

During that time while Clayton County police put out descriptions of the girl in the media and checked on incoming missing persons reports they did not check on prior missing persons reports. Dezvaux's mother reported her missing on Wednesday.

"The next step would have been to review the missing persons reports we had from before," Robinson said.

The girl's mother told police that she didn't watch the news or read the newspaper.

Rhonda Worthington, the owner of the pit bull, has been charged with having a dog at large and an animal nuisance. The dog was taken to Clayton County Animal Control and a hearing will be held to determine if it is a dangerous dog.
