The Clayton County Board of Education Budget and Finance Committee will meet at 6:30 tonight at the Administrative Complex, 1058 Fifth Ave., Jonesboro.
The committee will talk about a legislative update and discuss an update to the fiscal year 2004 and fiscal year 2005 budgets.
The Georgia General Assembly beat the clock last week to approve a state budget for fiscal year 2005. The school system was waiting on an approved state budget to move ahead with plans for its fiscal year 2005 budget.
Governor Sonny Perdue last week announced plans to call the lawmakers back because he contends the budget is not balanced. It is not clear if anything done in special session would impact education spending.
The school board already approved a plan for the budget committee to follow in drafting a budget based on proposed state education funding cuts.
The school system will now rework its budget based on the final state budgetary numbers. The new budget needs to be in place by July 1.
