Carleene Fruit

Mrs. Carleene Fruit of Peachtree City died Tuesday, April 20, 2004.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, April 23 at the Jonesboro First United Methodist Church with remains placed in state at 10 a.m. The Rev. Jerry Newton and the Rev. Kyle Smith will officiate. Interment will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Don Fruit; children, Todd and Terri Fruit of Savannah, Maribeth and Carlton Redwine of Peachtree City, and Laura and Stephen Jones of Peachtree City; eight grandchildren; brother, Joe and Helen Teague of Fort Mills, S.C.; sisters, Jeanette Hill of Honea Path, S.C., Betty and Gilmer Todd of Ware Shoals, S.C., and Martha Hopkins of Greenville, S.C.; nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Thomas E. (Tommy) Murphy

Mr. Thomas E. (Tommy) Murphy, 68, of Jonesboro, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2004.

Mr. Murphy retired from Benton Express with more than 40 years of faithful service. Mr. Murphy was one of the first employees hired and was there the first time the doors opened for business. Mr. Murphy was known for his kind, loving smile, his passion for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and football. He was an avid bowler and bowled in the league for Benton Express, where he was employed.

Funeral Services will take place Friday, April 23 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Pope Dickson and Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Billy Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Jones Memorial Church Cemetery in Forest Park.

He is survived by his former wife, Mrs. Robin Murphy of Jonesboro; daughter, Angie Murphy of Forest Park; grandchildren, Deago, Shyann and Mackenzie; brother and sister-in-law, J. Luther and Linda Murphy of Jonesboro; sisters, and brothers-in-law, Sara and Don Brock of Hampton, Mary Jane and Grady Exum of Koshkoneng, Mo., and Bettye Jo Murphy of Lovejoy; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends this evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

Mattie Rachel Steedly

Mrs. Mattie Rachel Steedly, 81, of Lake City, Ga. passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2004.

She was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church and also a member of The Tops Organization.

Services will take place at 2 p.m. Friday, April 23 at Tara Garden Chapel.

Survivors include her loving husband, Benjamin B. Steedly; daughter, Renee Abernathy of Jonesboro; sons, Ronnie Trammell of Zebulon, Ga. and Tracy Trammell of Lake City; sisters, Ruby Champion of Rockmart, Ga., Hazel Reeves of Forest Park and Betty Jo McKinley of Florida; grandchildren, Kristina Abernathy Stackow, Brad Abernathy, Ronnie Trammell, David Trammell, Melissa Trammell, April Tucker, Mae Toney and Doug Barnett; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
