The post-season begins today for local soccer teams.
The Jonesboro boys go on the road today for first round action in the Class AAAAA state tournament.
Jonesboro (8-4-2) plays at Windsor Forest (13-4-1) today for a 6 p.m. contest.
Last Friday, Jonesboro closed out the regular season with a 4-3 victory over Lovejoy. The win snapped a four-game losing streak that included losses to Henry County, Warner Robins, Woodstock and Fayette County.
Nine games into the season, Jonesboro was undefeated with a 7-0-2 record.
Windsor Forest enters the game on a three-game winning streak. Last Thursday, Windsor Forest closed out the regular season with a 5-0 victory over Savannah Arts Academy.
The winner will advance to play Newnan or Lowndes on May 3.
In girls action, Jonesboro will play at home Wednesday.
The Jonesboro Lady Cardinals tied Eagle's Landing for the top spot in the region standings this year but Eagle's Landing won the tiebreaker because the team recorded more shutouts. When they met head-to-head, they battled to a 1-1 tie.
Jonesboro finished the regular season last Friday with a 5-2 victory over Lovejoy. Jenkins won its regular-season finale last Tuesday with a loss to St. Vincents but had a six-game winning streak going into that game.
The winner of the Jonesboro-Jenkins game will play Lee County or McIntosh on May 4.
