The case against a Riverdale woman accused of shooting her sister to death has been bound over to the grand jury for indictment consideration.
Loretta Noble, 42, has been charged with murder in connection with the July 23 shooting death of her sister Justine Hathorne at an apartment building on Valley Hill Road. Her preliminary hearing was held Tuesday after which the case was bound over, said Noble's attorney Lee Sexton.
"She maintains that this is an accident," Sexton said. "She had a good relationship with her sister and would never cause her harm."
According to a police report, officers responding to the scene of the shooting found Hathorne lying near some shrubs in front of an apartment with blood coming from her mouth around 2:26 p.m. At the time Noble told Riverdale Interim Police Chief Greg Barney and another officer that the shooting was an accident and that she was sorry.
"We found it not to be an accident," Barney said.
Barney said Noble fired twice. He also said witnesses told them that the two women had been arguing.
