Jones: Recall will be successful

Efforts to recall Riverdale Mayor Phaedra Graham will be successful, said Leroy Jones, the one who initiated the recall.

"A lot of people are just disturbed at what's been happening," Jones said. "The more I talk to people, the more people want to get involved."

Jones collected 128 signatures to move the recall to the next phase. He was required to collect 100 signatures. In his recall petition, Jones listed more than six pages of charges against Graham.

Graham denied all of the charges levied against her.

Jones said he supported Graham initially when she was elected in November, but hasn't since she protested against the city and failed to live up to her campaign promises outlined in her three-point plan.

Riverdale voters had mixed reactions at first, but have signed the petition after hearing the charges, Jones said.

He has 30 days to collect signatures of 30 percent of those who were registered to vote in the November election.

In Wednesday's edition of the News Daily, Jones denied having anything to do with the recall.

Jones said that the News Daily call to his home Wednesday was answered by his father, who identified himself as "Leroy Jones," and not by Leroy Jones himself.
