A witness told Clayton County police he heard gunshots and saw somebody jumping from the third-story window of an apartment where a Decatur man had been shot to death. Clifton Jay McKenzie, 27, was found dead from a single shot to the head in the locked apartment in Gardenwoods Apartments on Gardenwoods Drive outside College Park around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Clayton County Police Capt. Jeff Turner said. Officers had to get the maintenance person for the apartment complex to open the locked door of the apartment after the witness called to report the shots and seeing a man jump from the apartment window. The man who jumped hit an air conditioning unit and is believed to have suffered injuries before running away. On Friday afternoon investigators were questioning the two men who live in the apartment regarding the shooting, but neither man was home at the time McKenzie's body was found. One of the men, Charles Lerrell Jackson, was arrested on an outstanding warrant but Turner said he didn't know what the warrant was for. ? Ed BrockMore like this story
