Police say a Fairburn woman stabbed her domestic partner in the hand after he hit her during a fight as they drove through Clayton County. Around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday Avis Ashton, 38, and Zimbelisc Brinson, 31 were driving to see Ashton's sister in Riverdale, Clayton County Police Capt. Jeff Turner said. "On the ride down they had an altercation that turned physical," Turner said. Turner said Ashton suffered a serious cut to her lip and had some hair torn from her scalp during the incident. After the fight they stopped at a business on Ga. Highway 85 in Riverdale and began arguing again. "She was scared he was about to hit her again so she picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed (Brinson) in the hand," Turner said. Ashton was taken to Southern Region Medical Center in Riverdale to have her injuries treated. Turner said the injury to Brinson's hand was minor. Brinson has been charged with battery in connection with the fight. Officers determined that Ashton acted in self defense and she is not expected to be charged, Turner said.More like this story
