Garnett Hockensmith

Garnett Hockensmith, 79, of McDonough, Ga. died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004.

He was born in Louisville, Ky., son of the late Luther and Leona Hockensmith. Mr. Hockensmith was retired from Ford Motor Company, a Navy Veteran of World War II, a member of the Masonic Lodge 940 Grand Lodge of Kentucky for more than 50 years, and a member of the McDonough Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife Jean; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Blythe Hockensmith of Bowling Green, Ky., granddaughter, Mary Bett Hockensmith of Bowling Green, Ky.; siblings, Don Hockensmith of Irvine, Calif., Jimmy Hockensmith of Sumiton, Ala., Aileene Britten of Richmond, Va., and LaVerne Nolan of Louisville, Ky.

Funeral Services will begin at 4 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Chapel of Cannon-Cleveland Funeral Directors, with Ministers James Hochensmith and Jeff Wilder officiating. Interment will be in Louisville, Ky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McDonough Bible College, 400 Lake Dow Road, McDonough, GA, 30253.

Emily Rogers Keller

April 29, 1918 - November 27, 2004

Sweet soul and loving mother, Emily lived and worked in Clayton County nearly all her life. She attended Atlanta Girls High School and then went on to Georgia State College for Women, where she graduated in 1941 with a Bachelors degree in chemistry and general science. She later attended the University of Georgia in Athens where she obtained her Master's of Science in chemistry in 1966. She taught chemistry and physics at North Clayton and Forest Park High schools for 25 years and was also head of the science department. In 1973 she furthered her educational pursuits by earning an M.A. in counseling from Georgia State University and was a counselor her last 3 years at Forest Park High. She was a member and past president of the Phi Chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Teacher's Sorority and a member of the Clayton County Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents, C.C. Rogers and Laura Mae West Rogers, and four brothers, Edward, Robert, Rufus and Billy. Surviving family members include brother Charles C. Rogers, Jr. of Jonesboro, daughters Gretchen Burton and Judy Olsen of California and Arizona, grandchildren, Rachel Burton, M.D. and Thor Olsen, and a great-grandchild expected to arrive in January.

Emily will be missed by all who knew her. A chapel viewing is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 4, from 1 to 2 p.m. with a memorial service at 2 p.m. at Thomas Scroggs Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, 6362 S. Lee Street, Morrow, Ga.

Joseph L. Walker Jr.

Mr. Joseph L. Walker Jr., 58, of Forest Park died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in Vietnam.

Funeral services begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5 in the Jonesboro Chapel of Pope Dickson & Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Bethel Baptist Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Walker; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Yoshiko Walker; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 at the funeral home.
