Southern Crescent musicians welcome holidays

From Staff Reports

The Southern Crescent Symphony Orchestra will present "A Christmas Celebration" Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Clayton County Schools Performing Arts Center.

Organizers hope the annual concert will energize the audience for the holidays while benefiting area children. This year, a portion of the Christmas concert ticket sales will be donated to Rainbow House, the Clayton County children's shelter that is being rebuilt after a recent fire. The audience is invited to add to the donation by placing a contribution in the Rainbow House basket at the ticket table.

"Rainbow House has been a wonderful institution in our community for years," said SCSO Conductor Dr. Richard Bell. "Their recent fire forced them to close for four to six weeks. We hope that our donation, along with the donations of others, will help them quickly get back on their feet."

The orchestra is in its 14th season and continues to be directed by founder Bell who began teaching orchestra at Union Grove Middle School last year after 22 years of teaching with the Clayton County School System.

Tickets may be purchased at the door: Adults $10, seniors and students $5. Season tickets are also available, $20 for adults, $10 seniors and students, and include entrance to all of the orchestra's concerts this season.
