Robert Olin Hanners Sr.
Robert Olin Hanners Sr. (R.O., Bobby), 62, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, after a valiant fight with cancer.
Mr. Hanners was surrounded by the love of his family. He went to be with the Lord on his son's birthday with his daughter holding his hand. Mr. Hanners was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him.
Mr. Hanners was born Dec. 21, 1941, in Troup County, Ga. to the late Earl and Doris Hanners. Mr. Hanners was a Deacon in the Presbyterian church, a citizen of the Southern Cherokee Nation, a member of the Sons of the Continental Indian Wars, Sons of the American Revolution, and Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Terrebone Parish LST-1156 during the Cuba Missile Crisis. Mr. Hanners retired as a supervisor from General Motors after 24 years, and later from Brake-O as an area supervisor. Mr. Hanners was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy R. Hanners, and his son, Robert O. Hanners Jr. (Buddy).
A memorial service to celebrate his life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, 308 E. Main St., Hogansville, Ga. with the Rev. Daniel Dye officiating. The Family will receive guests prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl Hanners Moore and her husband, Wayne, of Mooresville, N.C.; grandchildren, Adam, David, and Lauren Moore of Mooresville, N.C. and Robert O. Hanners III (Robby) of New Castle, Va. Mr. Hanners is also survived by his six brothers and sisters and their spouses: Earl and Scarlett Hanners Jr. of Brooks, Ga., Dr. Richard Hanners of Charlotte, N.C., Mike and Edna Hanners of LaGrange, Ga., Melissa Smith, Marie and Benny Johnson, and Debbie and David Martin, all of Hogansville, Ga.; many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Stephen D. Washney, 43, of Jonesboro died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004.
Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. today, Friday, Dec. 17 in the Jonesboro Chapel of the Pope Dickson & Son Funeral Home, with Dr. Curtis Turner officiating.
Survivors include his parents, Stephen and Alfrede Washney; brothers, Michael Washney and Jonathan Washney; sister, Sharon Washney; grandmother, Clara Kumicz; nieces and nephews, Christopher, Jordan and Rebecca Washney.
