Fredrick James Blankinship

Fredrick James Blankinship, age 34, of McDonough, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004.

He was born April 26, 1969, in Los Angeles, Calif.

Funeral services will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Jones, the Rev. Mike Turner and the Rev. Gary Boggs officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Shalena Adcock Blankinship and daughter, Holly Blankinship; parents, Lee and Karen Williams of McDonough; brother, Wayne Blankinship of Fountain Valley, Calif.; grandfather, Wynton Williams of McDonough; grandmother, Irene Arthur Underwood of McDonough; numerous aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Joseph A. Devore Jr.

Mr. Joseph A. Devore Jr., 71, of McDonough, Ga., died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, of complications from pneumonia.

Mr. Devore was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Mr. Devore was born in Baldwin Park, Calif. and raised in Passaic, N.J. He served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956, during which time he was stationed in the Far East as a radio operator. A graduate of Seton Hall University and the University of Bridgeport, he worked in corporate accounting positions for Pepperidge Farms, BeechNut Corporation, Alcan Aluminum and was comptroller for Teledyne. Most recently he owned Comprehensive Accounting in Forest Park, Ga. for 18 years. After his retirement in 1998, he enjoyed volunteering as a reader at Hickory Flat Elementary School. Along with his wife, he was involved in mentoring engaged couples through the Marriage Encounter Program. He enjoyed volunteering as the "storekeeper" at Stately Oaks Plantation in Jonesboro. He was deeply involved in church activities and enjoyed sports, reading, gardening, and political activity. But most of all he delighted in his family, his friends, his community and his faith. And though he is with God now, his wisdom, his humor and his love endure.

Joe Devore's life will be celebrated at a Funeral Mass Friday, Feb. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Philip Benizi Roman Catholic Church in Jonesboro

He is survived by his wife Betsy Newberry Devore of McDonough; daughters and sons-in-law, Ann Devore Hill and Mark Hill of Fort Plains, N.Y., Peggy Devore Westbrook and Chuck Westbrook of Snellville, Ga., Mary Jane Devore of Seminole, Fla., Maura Newberry Burke and Andrew Burke of Clarkston, Ga., and Beth Devore Brantley and Richard Brantley of Decatur, Ga.; sons, James F. Devore of Marietta, Ga., Joseph A. Devore III, Stephen B. Devore of Atlanta, and Sean M. Newberry of Atlanta; sister and brother-in-law, Bonita Devore Naipawer and Michael Naipawer of Bloomingdale, N.J.; grandchildren, Charles Joseph Westbrook, Thomas Heath Westbrook, Margaret Mary Westbrook and Andrew Boyd Westbrook, and "adopted" grandchildren J.R. and Olivia Westbrook, all of Snellville, Ga., Daniel T. Hill, Kevin E. Hill and Anthony S. Hill of Fort Plain, N. Y. and beloved family friends Steve Burress, Mimi Wyatt and Rim Hendi. Mr. Devore was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Mary Boyd Devore, and parents, Susan Gorum Devore and Joseph A. Devore Sr.

Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday Feb. 19, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Barbara Perry

Barbara Perry, age 82, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at her residence in Nashville, Tenn. after having a long battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Perry (33rd degree Mason and past Worthy Grand Patron Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star State of Georgia 1979-1980). Sister Barbara Perry was Past Matron and Member of Forest Park Chapter 290 Order of the Eastern Star. Sister Barbara served as the President of the Tara Shrine Club Ladies Auxiliary, the Taraettes in 1971. She served Forest Park Chapter 290 as Worthy Matron in 1976 and again in 1993. The Worthy Grand Matron for the Grand Chapter of Georgia appointed her as Grand Marshall in 1979-1980. She was a caring individual and served on the Board of Trustees of the Georgia OES Elderly for a number of years.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 at Parkway Garden Chapel. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her sons, Ron and Duane Perry; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20.

Cecil D. Smith

Teamster

Mr. Cecil D. Smith, 70, of Jonesboro, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at Southern Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 12, 1933, in Cobb County. Mr. Smith was a retired truck driver and a member of the Teamsters.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 in the First Baptist Morrow Cemetery, with the Rev. Stephen Cook officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Ingrid E. Smith; son, Pete Smith of Orlando; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Margie Word; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Friends may visit the family from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Earl Stroud Sr.

Veteran

Mr. James Earl Stroud Sr., age 87, of McDonough, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004.

Mr. Stroud was born May 20, 1916, in McDonough, son of the late Edna Dickerson and James Manson Stroud. He was an active member of the McDonough Presbyterian Church, serving as deacon and elder, a member of the McDonough American Legion Post 55, was a volunteer fireman for the City of McDonough when it was done by all volunteer, and he served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. His brother, Harper M. Stroud, preceded him in death in 2003.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 at McDonough Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Dudley Rose officiating. Interment will follow in the McDonough City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Catherine Hightower Stroud; children, Nancy Tew, Jim and Jill Stroud and Kay and Eddy Smith of McDonough; grandchildren, Brandon Smith, Michael Tew, Kristen Peterson, Christopher Stroud and Kimberly Stroud-Keller; great-grandson, Owen Keller.

Sarah Oldham Yearwood

Mrs. Sarah Oldham Yearwood, age 82, of Griffin died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004.

She was born May 14, 1921, in Athens, Ga., daughter of the late Agnes Maxwell and George Oldham. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Lauren Yearwood, in 1989.

A Funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
