Henry County Superior Court Chief Judge Hal Craig granted a $50,000 bond to a Stockbridge man charged with murder in the death of his 2-month-old son. Adam Michael Whitaker, 22, is represented by defense attorney Tom Cook of Atlanta. Originally arrested for aggravated battery Thursday, Whitaker was re-arrested Monday morning when the baby, Hunter Whitaker, died from closed head injuries late Friday night. Flint Assistant District Attorney Tom McBerry argued against bond on the grounds Whitaker may flee the jurisdiction given the punishment he faces if convicted. Under Georgia law, Whitaker could get life in prison or death, if District Attorney Tommy Floyd decides to seek the death penalty. No witnesses took the stand or offered testimony, said Floyd. Hunter Whitaker was admitted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Jan. 4 with symptoms of possible physical abuse, said Henry County Police Lt. Joe Tammaro. Tammaro said Monday that the case remains under investigation. It is not believed there are other children in the home. Floyd said as far as he knows, Whitaker's wife has not sought protection from her husband.More like this story
