Clayton Co.tournament starts today

When action starts tonight in the annual Clayton County Middle School basketball tournament, Kendrick will be the top seed in the girls' bracket and Mundy's Mill the No. 1 seed in the boys half of the tournament.

The boys' tournament takes center stage first with action beginning today at Babb Middle School.

The girls play their first-round tournament Friday at Babb Middle School.

Starting Saturday, the tournament shifts to Mundy's Mill High School for the remaining rounds. The final three rounds will be played at Mundy's Mill with the semifinals set for Monday and the finals on Thursday.

In the boys bracket Mundy's Mill (10-1), Babb (9-2), Roberts (9-2) and North Clayton (8-3) each received first-round byes.

Kendrick, which undefeated with an 11-0 record, earned the top seed and a bye in the girls tournament. Babb (10-1), North Clayton (9-2) and Morrow (7-4) received also first-round byes.

In the boys bracket first-round games feature Kendrick (7-4) taking on Jonesboro at 4:30 p.m., Adamson (5-6) playing Lovejoy at 5:45, Riverdale (6-5) playing Pointe South (1-9) at 7 p.m. and Morrow (5-6) playing Forest Park (3-8) at 8:15.

In Friday's first-round girls game, Lovejoy (7-4) plays Jonesboro (0-11) at 4:15. In other games, Mundy's Mill (4-6) plays Forest Park (2-9) at 5:45, Pointe South (6-4) plays Riverdale (1-10) at 7 p.m. and Roberts (4-7) takes on Adamson (4-7) at 8:15.

Quaterfinal action begins with a girls' game Saturday at 9:15 a.m. Tournament play will continue throughout the day at Mundy's Mill High School.
