Man killed in shooting

A Jonesboro man was killed in a shooting at his apartment and police were still looking Wednesday night for four suspects in the shooting.

Investigators had not positively identified the man by Wednesday afternoon, Clayton County Police Capt. Tim Robinson said, but said he appeared to be in his 30s.

Apparently three men came to the victim's apartment at Williamsburg South Apartments on Flint River Road around 2:45 p.m. They shot him in the chest and witnesses saw the three men run from the apartment, get into a teal green Volkswagen Jetta driven by a fourth man and drove away.

The victim's roommate came out of the shower to find the man had been shot. A helicopter ambulance flew the man to Atlanta Medical Center where he later died from his wound, Robinson said.

A neighbor of the victim, Paul Smith, said he knew the victim only by his nickname "Dred."

"I just spoke with that man yesterday," Smith said.

Smith said the man appeared to be talking and his eyes were moving when emergency medical personnel removed him from the scene.
