Mr. Harold Eugene Dodgen, 84, of Hampton died Thursday, June 10, 2004, at Sacred Journey Hospice.
Mr. Dodgen was born Sept. 28, 1919, in Cobb County, son of the late Edna Lillian Kent and Ollie Grady Dodgen. He was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, graduated from Hampton High School in 1936, served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific for eight years, and retired as a Steel Pattern Maker. He was past president of Hampton Lions Club and Hampton Youth Club, Hampton VFW Lodge, retired and moved to Crystal River, Fla., where he enjoyed fishing every day for 18 years before moving back to Hampton. Mr. Dodgen was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lillian Wallace Dodgen; brother, Fay Dodgen, and son, Russell Dodgen.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Lewis officiating. He will lie in state one hour prior to the service and interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his children, Joan Archer, James and Linda Bunn, Bill and Linda Dodgen, and Wes and Andrea Dodgen, all of Hampton; stepchildren, Alan Jackson of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Linda and Allen Cheek of Griffin; sister and brother-in-law, Regina and Robert Whitaker of Hampton; nine grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
