A candlelight vigil is planned for this evening to honor a 4-year-old shooting victim and to discusses ways to prevent future tragedies. The vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Riverdale Park on Church Street in Riverdale at the site where Trevon Wilson was killed on June 6 when he was caught in a shootout between rival gangs. Along with paying tribute to Wilson, members of the Riverdale community will discuss a movement to rename the park in Wilson's name, said Roberta Abdul Salaam, one of the organizers of the event. They will also talk about starting a "gun buy-back" program and other steps to end gang violence. Riverdale and Clayton County police have arrested two people in connection with Wilson's death, 22-year-old Deontrez Williams of Fayetteville and a 16-year-old male, and charged them with felony murder. Both are believed to have some connection with local gangs. More arrests are expected. A preliminary hearing for Williams is scheduled for Thursday morning. For more information on the vigil call Abdul Salaam at (678) 508-7388.More like this story
