The Chick-fil-A Charity Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez, won last month by up-and-coming LPGA star Jennifer Rosales, has announced that the 2005 event will be played May 9-15. This is one week later than this year's tournament and one week earlier than the 2005 dates previously announced. The 14th annual LPGA event brings the finest lady professional golfers in the world to Atlanta each year.
Previous winners have included Dottie Pepper (1992), Trish Johnson (1993), Val Skinner (1994), Laura Davies (1995), Barb Mucha (1996), Hall-of-Famer Nancy Lopez (1997), Liselotte Neumann (1998), Rachel Teske (1999), Sophie Gustafson (2000), Annika Sorenstam (2001), Juli Inkster (2002), Se Ri Pak (2003) and Rosales this year. The Chick-fil-A Charity Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez is televised to more than 84 million U.S. households each year through ESPN/ESPN2. Nearly 100,000 spectators attend the 72-hole tournament week which is one of the premier women's sporting events in the Southeast.
Tournament proceeds benefit WinShape Homes®, created by Chick-fil-A Founder and CEO, S. Truett Cathy, and Adventures in Movement (AIM) for the Handicapped, Nancy Lopez's favorite charity. The event contributed more than $800,000 to these and other programs last year thanks to the support of title sponsor Chick-fil-A, Inc., other corporate sponsors and to the tireless efforts of the more than 1,500 tournament volunteers. The 10-year donation total (since Chick-fil-A, Inc., became the title sponsor) is now more than $5.6 million.
