One of two 14-year-old girls hit by a car while crossing Riverdale Road suffered a head injury and had to be flown to an Atlanta hospital.
The girls were crossing from Highland Woods Apartments to a convenience store around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday when a Honda driven by 31-year-old Lavette Robertson of Jonesboro hit them, Clayton County police Capt. Jeff Turner said.
Turner, who did not release the names of the girls, said the girl suffered a head trauma was taken by air ambulance to Atlanta Medical Center but is expected to live. The other girl suffered abrasions in the accident and was taken to Southern Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Robertson was not charged in connection with the accident, Turner said, but he cautioned other drivers to be careful now that school is out and more children are on the road.
"Motorists should use extreme caution, especially on roadways where apartment complexes where children live are located," Turner said.
