An extension of the of the Clayton County school system's 1-cent sales tax is facing another hurdle before going to the public for a vote. The Facility/Purchasing/Transportation Committee of the Clayton County Board of Education will consider the final recommendation of the system's Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. The meeting will be held at 6:30 tonight at the Facilities and Purchasing Complex, 218 Stockbridge Road, Jonesboro. If the committee recommends moving forward, the item will be brought to the full school board to consider July 12, the next regular business meeting of the board. Voters in Clayton County would consider whether to extend the existing sales tax during an election in September. The committee will also review a progress report on the system's efforts to work with more minority and female-owned businesses. An update on the school system's aquatic center and desktop computer bid will also be discussed.More like this story
