Terrence Eugene Walsh

Terrence Eugene Walsh, 59, died of a heart attack Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at his workplace in Jonesboro.

Born Sept. 27, 1944, in Savannah, Mr. Walsh was fourth of six brothers. He was a loving father to his son, Kerry Michael Walsh, 19, also of Jonesboro. Mr. Walsh attended St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Jonesboro, where he served the community tirelessly. He worked as a Eucharistic minister, usher, fundraiser, and sometime choir singer. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Tara Council 6352, and was recently elected Warden for the Council. He was active in the Savannah Council 631 before moving to Atlanta. Mr. Walsh attended Sacred Heart Parochial School and graduated from Savannah High in 1965. Although he lived in the Atlanta area for the past three decades, Mr. Walsh still had Savannah's sand between his toes. Mr. Walsh visited his hometown frequently. Donning his best green blazer, he marched rain or shine in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. In 1993, Mr. Walsh was proud to serve as Eucharist minister at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on the Sunday before St. Patrick's Day. Mr. Walsh was active in community theater. He was a member of "The Knight's Players," as well as having appeared at the Clayton State Theater. His theatrical performances included "The Front Page," "Halloween Shows," "Our American Cousins," The Night of January 16th," and "If It's Monday, It's Mayretta." He especially enjoyed his role as a nun in "Sister Act." He loved all sports, particularly college football, traveling several times to South Bend, Ind. to attend Notre Dame games. He could rattle off the names of Georgia Tech stars from the early 1960s, and he knew the career details of any Savannah High School star from that period.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 28 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, 591 Flint River Road, Jonesboro. (770) 478-0178.

In addition to his son, Mr. Walsh is survived by his brothers, Anthony Leonard Walsh Jr. of Newtown Square, Pa., Emmet Michael Walsh Sr. of Atlanta and Dennis Holland Walsh of Paducah, Ky. He was preceded in death by brothers Stephen Michael Walsh and John Joseph Walsh.
