Dexter Lyons, a 2000 North Clayton graduate, leads the North Florida Golden Knights in scoring this year with 18.2 points per game. He's also averaged 4.4 rebounds per game. Lyons scored 13 points Thursday night as North Florida (23-5) beat Jacksonville 71-63 in the opening round of the Atlantic Sun Tournament. Here's a glance at how other local players are doing this year: n Riverdale's Chris McFarland led the Appalachian State Mountaineers in rebounding this year with 5.1 rebounds per game. The junior was second on the team in scoring with 11.7 points per game. The Mountaineers were 9-21 this year, losing to Charleston in the Southern Conference tournament. n North Clayton's Anthony Rice has been a key player for Memphis this year. The junior is averaging 8.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. The Tigers are 21-5 and close out the regular season Saturday at Cincinnatti. The Conference-USA tournament begins next Wednesay. n Mt. Zion's Terrence Woodyard finished his junior season at Western Carolina averaging 3.3 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.More like this story
