Teens arrested in connection with school fire

Three students at Morrow Middle School were arrested in connection with a fire that was started in a bathroom.

One of the three male students, all 14, was charged with arson and all of them were charged with reckless conduct, interfering with government property, and disrupting a school, Clayton County Police Capt. Jeff Turner said.

Around 12:23 p.m. the boys went into a bathroom at the school and started a fire in an attempt to set off the emergency sprinkler system. They then broke the element that triggered the sprinkler and alarm system, also causing the school to be evacuated.

The three teens were taken to the Clayton County Regional Youth Detention Center in Lovejoy.

Also, a bomb threat was made against the school at 7:25 a.m. Friday. The school buses were held while the school was searched but nothing was found, Turner said.

Turner said police do not believe that the fire and the bomb threat were connected. Also, the bomb threat was not connected to another threat made against North Clayton High School on Thursday, Turner said.
