Warner Robins outdistances Morrow for region boys title

The Warner Robins boys track team ran away with the Region 2-AAAAA championship Monday at Tara Stadium but Morrow was able to finish second.

Warner Robins won the meet with 113 points and Morrow placed second with 99.

Morrow will be sending several athletes to the Class AAAAA state meet.

Justin Christian led the way for Morrow with two first-place finishes. He won the 100-meter dash (10.82) and the 200-meter dash (22.20).

Other Morrow athletes going to state include Michael Proctor (second in the 400-meters, 49.71), Brandon Norman (second in the 110-hurdles, 15.02), Tyson Bonner (second in the 3,200 meters, 10:36.24) and Michael Leftwich (second in the pole vault, 11 feet). The Morrow 4x100 relay team will also be going to state as the team placed second with a time of 42.74

Mt. Zion finished third at the region meet. D'Antonio Rodriguez will go to state two events as he won the 1,600-meter run (4:39.83) and finished second in the 800-meter run (2:00.60). Other Mt. Zion athletes earning spots at state include Maurice Leggett (second in the 200-meter dash, 22.36) and Wilbert Michael (second in the long jump, 20-7.75). The Mt. Zion 4-x400 relay team also will make the trip to state as the Bulldogs won the event with a time of 3:22.95.

Jonesboro finished fourth at the region meet and will be sending one athlete to state. Terrence McLauren won the triple jump (43-2) and the long jump (21-1).
