Former Riverdale High School standout and current Jackson State junior B.J. Lange has been name the Southwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Outstanding Hitter of the Year. Lange led the SWAC in several offensive categories including batting average (.439), on-base percentage (.510), hits (72) and RBIs (72). He also was among league leaders in slugging percentage, runs, doubles, total bases, sacrifice bunts and stolen bases. For the week of April 14, he was named the SWAC Player of the Week. During that week, he compiled a .538 batting average, two doubles, three RBIs, two runs and three stolen bases. Lange was a four-year starter at Riverdale, graduating in 2001. That year, he batted .621 and drove in 41 runs. His .621 batting average is a Clayton County single-season record. He was named the News-Daily's Clayton County Player of the Year in 2001.More like this story
