A College Park man was shot while trying to defend himself against two would-be carjackers.

Two men, one between 17 years old and his early 20s, approached the 23-year-old victim around 4 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of Garden Woods Apartment on Garden Walk Boulevard, Clayton County police Capt. Tim Robinson said. One of the men had a gun and they tried to take the victim's white SUV.

"The victim tried to wrestle the gun away from him," Robinson said. "The gun discharged and the bullet went through the victim's hand and into his upper thigh."

The victim, who police did not identify, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment. Police searched for the suspects with a police dog and the police helicopter but were unable to find them.
