Charles Samuel "Sam" Cathcart Retired Mr. Charles Samuel "Sam" Cathcart, age 68, of McDonough, passed away May 24, 2004, at the Henry Medical Center. Sam was born July 2, 1935, in Fulton County to the late Samuel and Mary Dozier Cathcart. He graduated from Thomson High School, attended Berry College, and graduated from Southern Technical College in Chamblee, Ga. He served three years in the Marine Reserves and eight years in the Naval Reserves. Sam retired from BellSouth Telephone Company following 38 years of service, with a perfect attendance record, and was a member of BellSouth Pioneers. He was a faithful member of Salem Baptist Church of McDonough. Sam's main hobby was genealogy, and he spent many long hours over the last several years, including several trips to Scotland, to create a very extensive family tree. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 27 from the Salem Baptist Church, with Pastor Rick Statham, the Rev. Dan McKay, and the Rev. Bobby Swafford officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Sam will lie in state in the church parlor for one hour prior to the service. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Shelby Carter Cathcart; daughter, Caren Cathcart Satterwhite of Buford; granddaughter, Cortney Satterwhite; great-grandson, Michael Worthy of McDonough; sisters, Iris Cathcart Jordan of Conyers and Barbara Cathcart Gheesling of Thomson; a number of aunts, nieces and nephews. Friends may visit the family from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salem Baptist Church, 1724 Decatur Road, McDonough, GA 30252 in memory of Sam Cathcart.
