Wilma Hiett Smith
Born Wilma Ima Ingram on Aug. 12, 1919, today, Thursday, May 27, 2004, Wilma Hiett Smith went home to be with the Lord.
Wilma was a lifetime resident of Oxford, Ala., and was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Kennard Hiett. She was also preceded in death by her husband R.L. Smith. She relocated to McDonough, Ga. in 2001, where she enjoyed living next door to her family. Recently, declining health made it necessary for her to move in with Rex and Barbara, where she has lived for the past two years.
Wilma was a dedicated Baptist and a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oxford, Ala. Since moving to Georgia she has attended McDonough Christian Church with her family.
A public viewing will take place at McDonough Christian Church, 2000 Jonesboro Road, from 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Wilma will be transported for a viewing on Saturday, May 29 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Miller's Funeral Home in Oxford, Ala., with services to follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 30 Central Time (3 p.m. Eastern Standard Time). Flowers will be accepted at Miller's Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Oxford, Ala., where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Kennard Hiett.
Survivors include Lanny Rex and Barbara Hiett, and Max and Conni Hiett; grandchildren, Kay and Jay Embrey, Lanny and Sherry Hiett, Stacy and Angie Hiett, Barry and Cheryl Hiett, Tony and Kelly Hiett, Yancey Hiett and Jay Hiett, and Julie and Chris West; 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; brothers, Ben Ingram of Boaz and Bob Ingram of Mableton; sister, Peggy Stanley of Birmingham.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted in memory of Wilma Hiett Smith to the building fund of McDonough Christian Church.
