Green era ends on sour note

From staff reports

The Jackie Green era at Mt. Zion ended Friday night with a 19-0 loss at Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe in the first round of the Class AAAA state playoffs.

Green, who has been head coach at Mt. Zion since the school opened in 1989, ends his career at Mt. Zion with 100 victories.

Green previously was an assistant at Riverdale High School, where he was on the staff of Bill Kennedy, who holds the all-time Clayton County win record of 102 victories.

In Friday's game, two of Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe's touchdowns were from interception returns.

Green led the Bulldogs to the playoffs in six different seasons. In 1999, the Bulldogs won their first 14 games, and advanced all the way to the Class AAA state championship before losing to Oconee County 17-7. That season included a victory in the semifinals against Marist in the Georgia Dome.

In 2000, Green led his team to a 10-3 record and a 34-14 win in the playoffs at Valdosta.
