A delegation of Clayton County school nutrition staff participated in the annual National School Lunch Week 2004 Kick-Off Luncheon and Professional Development Workshop.
During the banquet, school system media specialist Jerry Jackson and News Daily education reporter Greg Gelpi were recognized along with 23 others in the media for their coverage of school nutrition issues.
School nutrition personnel learned about childhood obesity and other issues plaguing children and school cafeterias during the workshop.
Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin, who spoke at the banquet, said it's a "team" effort between the state and school nutrition programs to provide the freshest, healthiest and best food to school children.
The Georgia School Food Service Association banquet was held Thursday at Gwinnett Technical College.
