Harold H.G. Givens

Harold H.G. Givens passed away Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004.

Captain Harold was a dedicated fireman for 39 years. He retired from the Fulton County Fire Department in 1999. Captain Harold with a huge heart always made sure his fire victims were taken care of. Harold was a special person with a free spirit. Harold, also known as H.G., and his special heart worked with South DeKalb Mall for 28 years, retiring in April 2004.

During the 28 years of hard work and pleasure and 39 years of hard work and dedication Harold touched many lives and especially children. He made sure the mall was decorated for children, as well as children having what they needed after a fire. Harold was a wonderful, loving man. He was kind and generous to everyone, and had a unique and surprising sense of humor. He was a special friend, nephew, brother and cousin, and a Christian who is now with the Lord. Harold was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Riverdale.

He is survived by his brothers, David and Marie Givens, and Leroy and Nita Givens; sisters, Becky and Robert Shuler, Mary Ford, and Rosie Slaven; aunt and uncle, James and Bernice Still; and many nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers send donations to Georgia Firefighter Burn Foundation, 2575 Chantilly Drive N.E., Atlanta, GA 30324.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at New Testament Baptist Church. Interment will be at Fairview. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
